Matthew Henson is a fully qualified psychotherapist and existential analyst. He is a registrant of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), a member of the Society for Existential Analysis (SEA) and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Matthew has completed comprehensive generic psychotherapy training and is conversant with all of the main theoretical positions. He subsequently specialised in existential psychotherapy, which is the approach most suited to his own personal ethical framework and attitude.

A graduate of the Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy at Regent’s College Matthew has developed a private practice in Hebden Bridge. His previous experience includes provision of psychotherapy as part of NHS primary care services in East London and bereavement therapy for The Kate and Daniel Trust. He is published in the Journal of the SEA and currently undertakes professional misconduct adjudication work for the BACP.

Prior to commencing psychotherapy training Matthew gained over ten years experience working in mental health and allied services; including statutory organisations and the voluntary sector. He has experience of service development and of recruiting, training and supervising paid staff and volunteers in various capacities, including a community mental health befriending service, a National mental health helpline and a substance misuse agency.

In his spare time Matthew enjoys reading philosophy, creative writing, occasional hill walking and sometimes doing nothing.
